I’m so grateful to Hodges-Mace for providing each employee with two paid days off each year to serve our communities. Earlier this week, my kids were off from school, so I used one of my volunteer days to work at Chastain Horse Park. I was excited to be able to spend time with my kids, serving as a family. I volunteered at the horse park for 5 years before having kids, and haven’t been able to fit it in since. Our paid volunteer program made getting back into service possible. For those that aren’t familiar with it, Chastain Horse Park is a truly amazing place. They have a therapeutic riding center to support kids and adults ages 2 – 62+ with disabilities, and the horses that support the programs are amazing animals.
While we weren’t able to work directly with the horses during this session due to the age of my kids, we did get a chance to help out with barn chores. We washed fences in the horse arenas, cleaned tack, and took care of some of the other riding equipment. Rebecca Allen, our Sales and Marketing Technologist, took part in the fun as well. It was great team building, time with family, and an opportunity for some work-life balance.
Chastain Horse Park is always looking for folks to help, as they offer 5,200 lessons to over 100 individuals per year. They rely on 250+ volunteers who commit 16,000+ hours every year to keep their programs up and running. If you are interested, you can contact the park by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
