Our Bowling for Dollars event is one of my favorite times of the year. It makes me proud to work for a company that values me being the best version of myself, giving back to my community, and family time.
Hodges-Mace continues to impress me through its commitment to serving the community and appreciation for bringing families and coworkers together. Bowling for Dollars, our family fundraising event, allows our team and families to gather together each year to knock down pins for local Atlanta charities. Our 2016 event took place on August 27th. We had over 230 attendees, resulting in a full-venue buyout of The Painted Pin.
This year, Hodges-Mace raised $20,000 crushing our previous years’ records. Our six pre-selected charities for this year were: Georgia Special Olympics, CURE, Atlanta Youth Academy, The Dr. William Boydston Pediatric Neurosurgery Fund, Neurosurgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Meals on Wheels Atlanta. Giving back to nonprofits that are focused on assisting and enhancing adult’s and children’s lives only makes sense at a family and company-wide event like Bowling for Dollars. There were kids running around and eating pizza, parents trying to avoid gutter balls, and everyone coming together in a community fashion. Plus, at $1 per pin knocked down, we did pretty well for amateur bowlers as a whole!
Since this event is so popular and really shows a great snapshot of who we are and what our company values, this year we hired videographers to shoot footage and conduct interviews on site. A common theme among all responses (adult or child): Hodges-Mace enjoys giving back, and we know how to have fun while doing so. Children loved being the center of attention in front of a camera, and let’s be honest, parents did too!
The best part wasn’t the food, Moscow Mule slushies, or even the people we were with (even those all these things were pretty great), but the fact that we were raising money to help people in need that live so close to our surrounding area. I’ve been blown away not only by the outreach Hodges-Mace encourages my coworkers and myself to participate in year round, but also by the mass volumes of our team that sign up to give back. To me, it’s moments like this that I feel not only bring our colleagues closer together, but also makes me proud to work here. We like to have fun, give back, and hang out with each other – even on a Saturday afternoon.
